These beautiful grey leopards are native to the Central Asian mountains. They are rarely seen and it is estimated that only around 6000 remain in the wild, making them an endangered species. As usual, man is to blame, hunting them for their beautiful thick fur and even more shamefully, for their organs believed by some, to give health and sexual vitality to sick and impotent men.
Snow leopards are about 1.5m tall and weigh around 120lbs. They prey upon the blue sheep (bharal) of Tibet and the Himalayas.
With this intimate portrait, I wanted to convey the thickness of this animals fur and it's hauntingly beautiful stare.
