JUVENILLE GORILLA
Pastel, 16  x 22 inches
I saw this young character in the Kahuzi-Biega rainforest in Zaire. He was showing off in front of
me, climbing and swinging on the thin branch when suddenly it snapped and he fell flat on his
face. I learned that day that gorillas know the meaning of embarrassment.

A TIME FOR REFLECTION
Oil on linen, 30  x 40 inches
The father in this group (left) was feeling decidedly sorry for himself, he had just chastised
the baby who had run to the arms of its mother. The old grandmother sitting behind her had
in turn chastised the father, who was now sulking. We share more than DNA with our
closest relatives.
