I have always been a big fan of Jimi Hendrix, and this oil painting was for me,
something to keep after so many wildlife paintings. I didn't keep it for too long
though, as the owner of a music studio saw it and asked if I would sell it. Jimi is
such a splendid character for a portrait, and I would love to do more if I could
find the time.
The painting was actually inspired by the wonderful paintings by Monika
Dannerman,who tragically took her own life some years ago. I had the great
honour of being invited to her funeral where her paintings were displayed. I felt
so moved looking at her magnificent work that I immediately started this
painting when I returned to my studio. I wanted in a sense, to show that
Monikas work had not come to an end, but had inspired others to pick up her
torch and bring Jimi back to life on canvas.
