have been fortunate enough to see many leopards in the wild both in Africa and Nepal. I am always amazed at how comfortable they look, no matter what position they are in.
This painting was done at the Nature in Art museum, Twigworth, Gloucester, England. I am regularly the Artist in residence there, and enjoy giving talks and demonstrating. I started this one just as a portrait to show people how I did fur in pastels, with no intention of making it into a full painting but to my suprise it started to take shape very quickly and as people were responding to it very positively, I took it back to my studio and finished it off.
I'm very pleased that I did because it has become one of my best selling prints.
For more information about how this painting was done take a look at my blog article: 'Painting at nature in art' where you will see pictures of this painting in progress.
