This was a private commission. In this painting I wanted to capture the humidity and atmosphere of a Costa Rican Rainforest.
The resplendent Quetzal is considered amoung the worlds most beautiful birds. They live in the mountainous tropical regions of Central America where they live on fruit, insects, lizards and other small creatures.
My painting depicts a male Quetzal. The males have generally more vibrant colours and during the mating season mature males over three years old, develop these long twin tail feathers which are three feet long.
In the cloud forests of Costa Rica these beautiful birds are offered some protection, but elsewhere in Central America they are threatened by the destruction of their forest habitat.
