Loch Sunart holds  many memories for me.  I first sailed up Loch Sunart in 1970 with my father on a
60ft Ketch named Cu-na-mara and we dropped anchor here near Strontian. It was the happiest time of
my life.

I have loved the area ever since and visit regularly to explore the beautiful Ardnamurchan
Penninsula. I often stay in the secluded log cabins at Seaview Grazings and highly recommend them.

This painting has a special significance as it was the last painting my father saw me complete before
he died. I thought of him and the sailing trip we shared together whilst painting it  and managed to
complete it and show it to him only days before he died suddenly from a heart attack.

It was so strange that I had painted this scene thinking of my father, never realizing that I was
painting the very spot where I would scatter his ashes in the loch only a week later. It was a very sad
and strangely surreal day. As I set out on the loch I saw a huge golden eagle in a beech tree that
appeared to be quietly watching me and as I scattered my fathers ashes into the water a seal rose up
through them to watch me. My father was at peace with nature now in a place he loved.
