This pastel work started off as a training exercise at one of my private tuition days. I was demonstrating
how I start a pastel painting very softly and carefully checking all time that it is developing along the right
path, rather like an old photograph developing, Building in colour and contrast until I am satisfied with the
result. After the training day I thought the portrait had promise and decided to finish it.
